The final stop on this leg of the tour was Soundworks in Virginia. Here, the demo was conducted at a 10-acre concert site located on a small island on the James River in the heart of downtown Richmond, a venue that Soundworks works at throughout each summer and is very familiar with.
This gave an extremely good frame of reference for testing Flex Array, as the team know exactly how its Aspect system performs there.
Three Aspect® TA-880s and two TA-500s per side were ground stacked to give a direct comparison to the six Flex Array TFA-600s per side, which were flown on each side of the stage.
"The sound of the TFA-600 is Turbosound - and that is a very good thing," says Soundworks' founder and president Steve Payne. "It's very similar in voicing to the Aspect system.
"I was stunned by the output, fidelity and incredible reach afforded by bringing Turbosound's polyhorn technology and the new Dentritic™ device to a line array application. I was expecting it to be good - it was much more than that. And the rigging is very straight-forward and effective, too. It's very fast and very easy!"
Payne thinks that arriving late to the line array party has its advantages and disadvantages. "The disadvantage is that many others have gotten a big head start in the market penetration," he continues. "The advantage is that Turbosound has learnt from others what works and what doesn't and hence has been able to 'hit the nail on the head'.
"There is a lot of competition in this market, but the cream will always rise to the top. Flex Array is far more than just another excellent line array. I had invited about a dozen colleagues to this demo and I think it's safe to say that pretty much everyone was VERY much impressed!
"I am very hopeful that the word is going to spread like wild fire."
With such a positive start, it looks like Flex Array is all set to be a big hit Stateside. |
